Ingredients

In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar with electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy. Add vanilla and eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add half of the flour mixture, beat on low speed until just combined. Add sour cream and remaining flour mixture, beat until just combined.

Divide batter evenly between prepared pans; spread evenly. Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center of cake comes out clean. Cool in pans on wire rack 10 minutes. Remove from pans; cool completely.

Frosting

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened
  • 3 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 3 to 4 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

In a medium bowl, beat butter with electric mixer on medium speed until smooth. Add confectioners' sugar, 3 tablespoons of the milk, and the vanilla. Beat on low speed until combined. Gradually add remaining 1 tablespoon milk, beating until light and fluffy.

Spread frosting over cooled cake. Sprinkle with additional cinnamon, if desired.
