Ingredients
- 175g unsalted butter, melted
- 175g caster sugar
- 3 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 175g self-raising flour
- 25g cocoa powder
- ¼ teaspoon of baking powder
- 2 tablespoons of milk
- 150g of dark chocolate, finely chopped
- 150g of milk chocolate, finely chopped
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 180°C/160°C fan/gas mark 4 and grease and line two 8-inch round cake tins.
In a large bowl, add the melted butter and sugar and beat together until light and creamy. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well between each addition.
Add the vanilla extract, flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and milk and mix together until fully combined. Fold in the chopped chocolate and pour the mixture into the prepared tins.
Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a skewer inserted into the centre of the cake comes out clean. Remove from the oven and allow to cool in the tins for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
When the cakes are cool, make the buttercream. In a large bowl, beat together the butter and icing sugar until light and fluffy. Add the cocoa powder, milk and vanilla extract and beat until fully combined. Place one of the cakes on a cake board or plate and spread over half of the buttercream.
Top with the second cake and spread the remaining buttercream over the top and sides of the cake. Decorate as desired and enjoy!
