Chocolate Cake with Caramel Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (225g) butter, melted
  • 2 cups (400g) sugar
  • 1/2 cup (50g) cocoa powder
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (250ml) milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • For the sauce:
  • 1/2 cup (100g) butter
  • 1 cup (200g) sugar
  • 1/2 cup (125ml) cream

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch (23cm) round cake pan and line the bottom with parchment paper.

2. In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, sugar, cocoa powder, eggs, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix in the milk and vanilla until combined.

3. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes in the pan, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.

4. To make the caramel sauce, melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add the sugar and cream and stir until combined. Cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture comes to a boil. Boil for 1 minute, then remove from the heat and let cool.

5. To serve, slice the cake into wedges and top with the caramel sauce. Enjoy!
